Who Karianne is

An author from northern Norway

Karianne Mikalsen lives in northern Norway, where the mountains, the coast and the sea are never far away. She has spent her working life in helping roles, and today she brings that same care to the page.

She knows from experience what it is to live with a mental illness, and what it takes to build a good, meaningful everyday life alongside it. Her writing is personal, open and deeply human.

Why she writes

To give a voice to what is rarely said

Mental illness is still surrounded by silence and shame. Karianne writes because she believes openness matters, and that honest stories help people recognise themselves, feel less alone and understand one another better.

She doesn’t write to put herself in the spotlight. She writes for the reader who is still searching for a way forward, and for the helpers who want to understand.

“You are the reason I am writing down my experiences.” Karianne Mikalsen
